When to Block Countries
Consider blocking countries when:
- You don’t ship there
- Fraud rates are high from that region
- Compliance requires geographic restrictions
- You want to focus on specific markets
Step 1: Identify Countries to Block
Review Your Data
- Which countries have high fraud?
- Where don’t you ship?
- What countries have no legitimate orders?
Common Blocking Choices
Many merchants block:
- Countries they don’t ship to
- Regions with high fraud rates
- Areas with no marketing presence
Step 2: Access Country Blocking
- Open SecurEcommerce
- Navigate to Blocking > Country Blocking
- View available options
Step 3: Configure Your Approach
Option A: Blocklist (Block Specific Countries)
- Default: All countries allowed
- Add countries to block
- Best for: Blocking a few problem areas
Option B: Allowlist (Allow Specific Countries)
- Default: All countries blocked
- Add countries to allow
- Best for: Serving limited regions
Step 4: Add Countries
For Blocklist
- Select “Blocklist mode”
- Search for countries to block
- Add each country to your blocklist
- Save changes
For Allowlist
- Select “Allowlist mode”
- Search for countries to allow
- Add each country to your allowlist
- Save changes
Step 5: Set Block Message
Create a helpful message for blocked visitors:
Example:
“We currently ship only to [your regions]. We’re working on expanding internationally. Visit [contact page] for more information.”
Save your block message.
Testing Your Configuration
- Use a VPN to appear in a blocked country
- Visit your store
- Verify the block message appears
- Test from an allowed country
Monitoring and Adjusting
After enabling:
- Monitor blocked traffic in analytics
- Watch for customer complaints
- Adjust countries as needed
- Review periodically
Common Configurations
US-Only Store
- Allowlist: United States only
- Or blocklist all other countries
North America
- Allowlist: United States, Canada, Mexico
Exclude High-Fraud Regions
- Blocklist: Countries with your highest fraud rates
- Allow everywhere else
